What is Niche Marketing -The Basics

Many people who are new to Internet Marketing will have come across the term niche marketing.   Just as many end up confused as to what is niche marketing is and how it may help them in their Online Business.

Niche marketing is just a smart way of finding a doorway or a foothold into a larger market.The Internet is an incredibly competitive place with vast sums of money being made by many who have established sites.  Newcomers will not have the resources or knowledge to compete at the top level of the chosen market so what you try to do is find a segment of that market that you may be able to compete in.

Now don’t for a second think you are taking second best and leaving all the cream to the big boys. I can assure you that if you pick the correct niche and discover their needs and desires and then market to them correctly the rewards can be substantial.

So just how do you go about finding a niche in a highly lucrative market. Rather than trying too blind you with the mechanics of niche marketing the best thing I can do is to give you some examples.

Lets look into the pet market. Overall this marketed is worth millions of dollars per year.  How do you go about getting your share of that market?  Well to stand any chance of capitalising in this market You Need to dig down and find a more specific part or niche in this market.

From the overall pet market we will look into Dogs. From dogs lets go to the German Shepherd breed.

Dogs are a niche of the pet market and the German shepherd a niche of the dog.  Can you understand how this is working. We are digging deeper into a broad market until you get down to a more specific  and targeted part or niche in that market.

Now if you had a Web Site that was targeting the German shepherd breed  you would stand a much better chance of being able to compete because there would be less completion.

You don’t have to stop there either. If you dug even deeper you would be able to discover some exciting niches such as how to train your German shepherd, how to train a German shepherd puppy, how to stop a German shepherd from biting. By finding out what the people who own German shepherds or  are thinking of owning one are talking about or are unsure about you would have a whole list of niches that you you could monetize.
